Data Week 2021: Metadata processing
Data Week 2021: Metadata processing at Lynx
The Data Week is the spring gathering of the European Big Data Value and Industrial AI research and innovation community. The metadata-related operations of Lynx were presented in this vibrant event. The presentation described the Lynx achievements and exposed the lessons learnt, which were object of a very interesting debate.
The workshop explored ways to make metadata interoperable. This way not only the valued data, but also the very valuable metadata can participate in data value chains that build up the data economy. This is needed to have proper data protection and hence also increase the sharing and processing of data, which otherwise would not be possible due to (real or perceived) privacy risks. The goal of the workshop was to interactively discuss and exchange current and future challenges and solutions of metadata interoperability, best practices and developments.

Lynx presented the idea of 'ethical compliance' as complementary to that of 'regulatory compliance'; and how Lynx will include in the Legal Knowledge Graph not only legislation but also Codes of Conduct, Deontological Codes and Ethical Guidelines. This is probably the first a time a Legal Information System includes information from these two different dimensions alltogether.
Second, the interoperability challenges of Lynx were discussed in the Interoperability as an enabler of the data economy session, coordinated by Rigo Wennig (W3C).
Finally, Elena Montiel-Ponsoda (UPM) represented the Lynx project in the BDV PPP Steering and Technical committees. This dense agenda was fruitful and Lynx collected valuable feedback from other BDV PPP colleagues.

The workshop is co-located with LREC 2018. It will take place in Miyazaki, Japan, in the afternoon of May 12th, 2018.
Vast amounts of cases, rulings, laws, regulations, political programs, parliamentary debates and public opinions have been released in the last few years. However, we still don’t have a clear consensus or agreement of what the key characteristics, components and functionalities of the Legal Knowledge Graph should be. The language resources that should be used to populate the Legal Knowledge Graph are also a topic of current debates. The proposed workshop is aimed at filling this crucial gap.
Deadline February 6th, 2018. Don't miss the workshop!
